FAQ

Anyone aged 16 and above can enroll. The Fundamentals of Stage Combat Certification is open to beginners with no prior experience, while the Weapon Specialisations Certification is for those who have completed the Fundamentals course and want to specialize in advanced weapon techniques.

In the Fundamentals of Stage Combat, you'll train in knife combat, grappling, close-quarters combat, staff and polearms, and single sword (sabre). The Weapon Specialisations course covers smallsword, rapier and dagger, sword and shield, and theatrical martial arts.

The courses are led by highly experienced instructors from the Society of Australian Fight Directors (SAFDi) and Aotearoa Fight Directors (AFD):
  • Fundamentals of Stage Combat: Nicholas Schultz (AFD) & Dugald Lowis (SAFDi)
  • Weapon Specialisations: Jason McKell (SAFDi) & Simon Manns (AFD)

The courses run for nine days from April 12–21, 2025, with eight days of training and one day of assessment. They will be held at the Australian Performing Arts Conservatory (APAC), Brisbane, Queensland.

No, all necessary training weapons and safety equipment will be provided during the course. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable training attire and bring water and snacks for breaks.
