The Performing Arts Conservatory Brisbane, (TPAC) was where it all started for both Mirko and Kaushik, a little over a decade ago where they completed their Advanced Diploma of Screen and Stage Acting and most recently their Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Film-Making)

Congratulations to Mirko and Kaushik for the production of the short film ReFraction

They have recently collaborated on the production of the short film ReFraction.

The short film ReFraction, produced and directed by Mirko Grillini, has won three special awards at the IndieFest in the US. The film deals with the plight of asylum seekers in Australia and the difficulty for indigenous peoples to belong both to their original and to the western culture. Kaushik developed the story over two years and co-starred with actor Heath Bergersen (Rabbit Proof Fence, Japanese Story) in this short film.

Mirko said – “Kaushik and I have embarked on a very powerful journey, the next step up to our acting and film making careers and we want to share this with you as we both studied Acting and graduated from The Performing Arts Conservatory. We had the support of Redland City Council, the Quandamooka people and Screen Queensland. This project is a thriller that highlights humanity, equality and women.”

This is a 10-minute documentary of the day we filmed on Quandamooka Country (North Stradbroke Island, Queensland) and worked with the Quandamooka People on Adam’s Beach.

Awards

The Film is currently working its way through the international and domestic Film Festival Circuits and has already been awarded with 6 wins and 1 honorable mention.

ReFraction is now part of the Official Selection at the ALL LIGHTS International Film Festival in India, which is one of the 4 largest film festivals in the country.

ReFraction has won another 3 Awards and an Honorable Mention at Top Shorts   judged by an Emmy Award Winning Jury.
